Flashing a 12G External PCI-E SAS/SATA HBA Raid Controller Card

Hi,

My 12G External PCI-E SAS/SATA HBA Raid Controller Card card BIOS takes 3 minutes to boot on my ASUS WS X299 SAGE/10G motherboard.

I read that it might be possible to flash an UEFI instead of a BIOS on this card, but could not find any details specific enough.

Does anybody know if it's true, and if yes, describe the procedure and give me the links for all the needed files?

The card is used to control an LTO 7 drive on Windows 10.

After picking up an MD3200 (thank you STH folks) I soon realized Dell has locked these chassis to Dell branded/firmware disks. I have 3 MD1200's that don't have this...problem so I'm moving other disks to these shelves.

I'm looking for high TB 3.5" or decent sized SSD's that have dell firmware that I can put in array. I don't care if the disks are new/used/refurbished (price/offer will reflect it) but they all need to have Dell's firmware on them.

OK! wow.... what a great community STH is. I wish I would have known about this place sooner. I have been doing a lot of reading the past week. This has led to the typical highs, feeling like I know what I want, and lows, feeling like I know nothing about what is out there. That being said, I am looking for some advice about what direction to head, hoping to pull some information that I wasn't able to glean from the forum.

I'll start with my current setup, lead into the requirements that I...

How to make the most of a 1.15Gbps (Gig1) Virgin Media ISP

I have just upgraded my ISP to the latest Virgin Media (VM) offering which gives just over 1.1Gbps/50Mbps connection speeds.

The supplied router comes with 4 x 1 gigabit ports as well as WiFi 5? It does not have a 10Gbe connection and it can be operated in Modem Only mode that would limit it to one port.

A single connection direct to the router tops out at around the 930Mbps or so mark in line with expectations.

I am the point where I am considering upgrading parts of my core network to...

Help looking for firmware utility for Toshiba HK4R THNSN81Q92CSE

I have tried every search combination of Toshiba + HK4R THNSN... Firmware Update Tool... and I can not find the utility. I found a site that talks about the SSD but not the software. I did find a software update tool but that was for from Toshiba's consumer division and it was just an OCZ flash program.

 Samsung 970 Evo Plus vs. Seagate FireCuda 520 but both in Intel PCIe 3.0 slot?

I am trying to decide between Samsung 970 Evo Plus vs. Seagate FireCuda 520 for my new build. Build uses Intel X299 motherboard so “winner” will run in PCIe 3.0 slot, advantages of 4.0’s higher bandwidth for sequential throughput will not be a deciding factor.

What matters to me is how they would stack up in such layout in random access, especially at lower queue depth and thread count. Does anybody have such benchmark info, please?

Vyos 10GbE Router

So, I figured it was time to retire my Edgerouter 8 Pro, and figured I would try my hand at Vyos as a 10GbE router. Seems like, at least with my particular setup, that Vyos is perfectly capable of routing at line rate for 10GbE, even across adapters.
Note that this is not a final setup in terms of vlans or connection, just for testing the router.

Does anyone have any experience with Vyos and 40GbE, and how well it performs >10gbe?

I have a Xeon E-2176G processor on a Supermicro X11SCL-IF motherboard. I need Quick Sync video acceleration. I found out that the X11SCL-IF will not support Quick Sync.
I emailed Supermicro and their response was "X11SCL does not support Quick Sync, for UP, only X11SCH supports it."
I cannot find anything in the manuals that indicates either the X11SCH-F or X11SCH-LN4F (the only two boards in that series) supports Quick Sync.
Does anyone know if either or both of these boards will support...

Hi there,

having done some research I know this card is a Dell version of the Intel i350-t4. I just want to make sure it works with ESXi 6.7. I am running ESXi 6.7 u3 at home. I bought a i340-t4 which turned out to not work with ESXi due to a strange PCI device id.

Thanks

How to reformat HDD & SSD to 512B Sector Size

For those of you who have purchased OEM rebranded HDD or SSD from major storage vendor such as NetApp, EMC, or even HP, you might find out that the drive that you've purchased will not initialized in windows. The main reason is that the drive come formatted from the factory with a non standard sector size of 520B or 528B, and windows refused to initialized drive other than the normal 512B or 4Kb. I read online the reason that these drive are formatted that way is due to some proprietary...

Hey fam, looking for recommendations on best value/bang for buck UPS for my gear. Current active draw on stack is roughly 4A 24/7/365. Seems like brand new is $$$ so I believe I am ok with refurbished UPS from ebay in good condition w/ like-new batteries. Seems like there are a ton of good deals but don't want to shoot myself in the foot. Anyone have some clear standout winners. E5-2640 v3 running warmer than expected

I have an ESXi system running in a Supermicro 826B 2U chassis with 4x FAN-0074L4 midplane fans.

It was running E5-2650 v2 / X9DRD-7LN4F-JBOD (single CPU) with passive 2U heatsink and was happily idling at 30C. Now I upgraded to E5-2640 v3 / X10SRH-CF and with passive heatsink it was idling at 43C. I switched to active 2U SM cooler and it is still idling at 42C. My expectation was that upgrading to v3 from v2 will keep CPU temp the same or maybe even drop by a degree or two, but instead it...
