Just wanted to give heads up here that there is currently a seller from Ireland selling SX6012 switches on eBay (Mellanox SX6012 12-port Non-blocking Managed 56Gb/s InfiniBand/VPI SDN Switch) for a really low price. These are not Mellanox genuine switches and they don't run MLNX-OS! Beware and avoid disappointment!

If you don't mind using them as unmanaged switches (Infiniband only), you can flash them with the SX6005 firmware and it'll...

Its ready to go. I ended up not using it for a project so it sitting here and was never really even used other than my doing the upgrade. I think I screwed up, looking for some guidance.
Upgrading part of my home network to 10gb.

I was hunting down Mellanox ConnectX-2 on ebay.
I got the right card the first time with 2x SFP+ Ports, but it had the wrong bracket size. The listing said "includes low profile bracket" and I for some reason I read that as "also includes" like how most desktop parts are listed when you buy a PCI device.

I canceled that order and did a fast rebound looking for the cheapest cards with the high...

any help greatly appreciated... warning... n00b at this ...


Ok so I'm new to this and I have a test lab at work.

I have 4 esxi 6.7 boxes - will get to them later
a windows 10 pc (dell precision 5810)

Our guys were getting rid of a mess of hardware so I grabbed it and figured time to play around.
I stuck a mellanox card in the win10 box and drivers installed, albeit, MS drivers. but it seems to be good?
I also connected a cable to the switch and the light on the switch lit up but in win10...

Need help with starting 10gb setup

So I picked up an IBM flavored Mellanox ConnectX-3 EN (MCX312A-XCBT / Dual 10GbE SFP+) from eBay. It's FRU: 00D9692. The latest WinOF driver installed without issue (Windows 7 Pro).

The card has a PSID of IBM1080111023 so the standard MT_1080110023 firmware won't load on it. Here's what I see:

Ok so I have the following:
esxi 6.7 - 1
esxi 6.7 - 2 (well not yet but going to build)
freenas - so I can do vmotion
gaming rig
server 2016

now I have 10gb ib cards (old hp connect cx4 style) in each machine and got them working in a pier to pier mode. The only problem I have run into on these cards is I can only get the top port to activate. I get link lights with the cable attached but if I attempt to use any of the bottom ports, I do not get any link lights. Interestingly enough every...

Just got my black friday WD Easystore opened. (One month late because I've been lazy.)

Shuck it and start using it, I noticed that there's random noise from the drive when reading / writing. Sounds to me like the head loses the track and tries to relocate itself. Installed Debian on to this drive, and did some random apt-get install, I heard a few times the "head reset" noise during the reading / writing, and apt lags for a fraction of a second every time I hear it.

So I thought, screw it,...

I built a NAS with the following specs . The power consumption is about 100 to 102W idle according to my kill-a-watt.
I am wondering if there is anything I can do in order to reduce the idle power consumption.

Z170 chipset . Asus Z170-AR motherboard
Skylake 6600k CPU running at 4.4 GHz
NH-D14 cooler (dual fan)
Cooler Master HAF-XM case, with 4x200mm fans and 1x140mm fan
Raidmax 1200 PSU
32GB DDR4-3000 Patriot RAM, at 2400 MHz (unreliable beyond 2400 unfortunately!)
1 x Kingston 96GB SSD...

Starting a thread on the Fusion-io ioDrive 2 1.2TB cards as they seem to be on the market fairly often now at under $0.50/GB. Hopefully others can chime in with experiences.

Key Specs
Capacity: 1.2TB
Formatted capacity in Windows: ~1.1TB
Random 4k read IOPS (tested via Iometer): 330K - 340K
128KB Sequential Read: 1.5GB/s
Write endurance: 16.26PB
Interface: PCIe 2.0 x8 (works in older servers)

Actual 4K Random Read IOPS using a Windows 10 Pro test machine...
